Snowboard box top? what material should i use?

i have this table that would be a good box. i tried spray painting it, but it comes off really easily is there anything i can paint on it that will help it slide well, like a real box. i know there HDPE and LEXAN, but they're expensive. i also heard something about fibergl resin, whats that, and how do i do it? anyother kind of plastic thats pretty cheap i can just glue on to it? thanks.
