Need A Good Stew Or Soup Thats Quick?

My dads sick so i thought id make a good stew or soup yet i dont know any recipes, im looking for one that i can make in a couple of hours as i can walk to the shop in an hours time to grab the ingredients and have about 3 hours before lunch time to cook. Please help?
